Your recommendations.
Last year I had my iPod stolen from our vehicle. My parents purchased a new and better iPod for me for Christmas this year. I am very thankful. I then received an iTunes gift card from Sarah’s parents. So… without revealing my current iTunes library I am asking for your recommendations. What albums and/or songs should I purchase from iTunes?

David Cook
I already told you this, but I would recommend a band called Sleeping at Last (awesome guys from Wheaton) and John Foreman’s solo projects. Also, I like Deathcab’s Plans and Narrow Stairs albums. And for good measure, dc Talk’s Free at Last (oldie but a goodie).
Andrew Bird-Armchair Apocrypha …one of my new favorite albums this year… he’s a multi-talented musician…and also a professional whistler…
Anathallo-Floating World…only the most amazing thing ever. highly recommended.
Anathallo-Canopy Glow… again… amazing, but on a different level. very good lyrics…
Fleet Foxes-Ragged Wood…another great album i picked up this year. very mellow and folk-ish…
or… anything by John Coltrane. come one, he’s the best.
You should rock a little Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, circa 1723. The ladies love it and it’s great for getting pumped up before a big game.
Sigur Ros: check out the song “Staralfur.”
Soaking up Bon Iver right now; also enjoyed Coldplay’s new album, and Fleet Foxes debut.
Travis, I’m going to be an Apple geek and ask what kind of iPod your parents got you. I’m in the same new-iPod-for-Christmas boat, typing this on the iPod touch that my parents got me.
Bon Iver’s album For Emma, Forever Ago
I have received a number of recommendations via text that include:
Bon Iver
City & Color
Broken and Social Scene
Amos Lee
Hannah Montana
The Glorious Unseen
Greg Laswell
Over the Rhine
Ingrid Michaelson
Iron & Wine
David Gray
Justin Nozuka
Matt Nathanson
NeedToBreathe
Missy Higgins
Warren Barfield
Coldplay
Sandi Patty
Gaither Vocal Band
Ray Boltz
John Tesh
Deathcab for Cutie
Jason Mraz
Copeland
Anathallo
Augustanas
Thoughts anyone?
JP,
I got the 120G iPod Classic.
I second the Greg Laswell and Iron & Wine suggestions. You might also check out NPR’s All Songs Considered podcast with Bob Boilen. It’s one of my favorite resources for new music; plus, they recently added their annual best-of episodes.
So i’m currently a very big Stephen Speaks fan, and Eric Peters has been on my most played list recently as well.
Also, if you’re in a rebellious punk mode, Framing Hannely’s version of “Lollipop” is quite enjoyable!
Best of Barry Manilow
I would strongly suggest Jon Foreman’s 4 Season EP set, but that might be better in CD form for the sweet cover art. I would recommend David Gray most definitely. Or Cat Stevens. I could go on and on, but I don’t know what you like really.
Fleet Foxes album is WONDERFUL.
If you like their style, check out Maps & Atlases to hear something you don’t hear every day. they are one of my favorites.
Justin Nozuka is a small stud working his way up. Reminds me a bit of Matt Wertz.
Bon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago”.
I just looked up and saw that almost all of my reco’s have been used already.
Jon Foreman is a MUST, but pre order Fiction Family’s album coming out in January. You can download a free song on their website too. Snow Patrols new CD is a bust.
Haha, okay, so this is an old blog. I was blog browsing and found this. I really don’t know you very well, but I’m always into suggesting good music : ].
Kings of Leon – Amazing band, anything you get from them will be good. Their newest one is really good.
The Black Keys – All their albums are amazing, but Rubber Factory is probably my favorite.
Johnny Flynn – A Larum. He’s pretty new, but still amazing.
Athlete – The only full album I have by this band is Tourist, so I would recommend that one : ].
David cook has one of the great voices that i have ever heard in american idol.*’
